Flintloque has a lot to answer for. Way back in 1996 it
started me and a good swath of my university chums on a wargaming path that
could have otherwise been swept up by, shall we say, more commercial games that
whilst good didn't have the same feel as Flintloque. It probably helped lower my final grade and eat into my student grant too (yep, we got them back then), but it was a top game with good miniatures so it didn't matter ;)
It seemed to peak back in
the early years of the new millennium (I refuse to call them the naughties) and
for a while it nearly disappeared altogether as the last remaining few watched the Flintloque eGroup slowly dwindle into obscurity. Now thanks to the
renewed enthusiasm and talent of the people at Alternative Armies it's back and
with it's official sequel, Frontear, on the horizon it's looking better than
ever.
Part of the original mandate for Orcs was to bring you, the reader, old articles and scenarios that were either hard or impossible to get hold of. Where better to start than
the original 1995 edition of the Flintloque rulebook. I have not included the bulk of the rules as
most of you who read this have the excellent revised Reloaded edition but I have included
a few choice excerpts here and there which in my opinion made Flintloque
a little bit more special but sadly did not make the final cut for the Reloaded book. They are of course completely compatible with Reloaded and I encourage you to give them a try.
I hope you
enjoy reading these little pieces of nostalgia as much as I did compiling them.
